Meaningful ways to Inspire Employees and Increase Satisfaction

As an HR professional, do you ever think how much easier your job would be if all of the employees were satisfied? If all the staff you interact with loved their jobs, you’d probably love yours more as well. While there are some employees that are determined to be ‘difficult’ at work, most employees would appreciate your efforts to make them happier on the job.

Employee attitudes typically reflect the moral of the company. In areas of customer service and sales, happy employees are extremely important because they represent the company to the public. Satisfaction, however, is not linked solely to compensation. Sure, a raise or benefits will probably improve employee contentment, at least temporarily, but small, inexpensive changes can have a long-term impact.

Especially in Greece, where raising financial benefits are difficult as we speak, the need to deliver messages of appreciation and find practical ways to support your staff is greater than ever.

√ Recognition & Rewards

Employees enjoy an atta-boy and it need not be a public show to mean something to employees. Encourage supervisors and managers to acknowledge employees deeds on a daily basis.

Getting Started

  • Implement a formal program company-wide to recognize top achievers in every job category. Healthy competition can boost morale, encourage hard work and increase satisfaction and retention.

√ Positive Work Environment

An upbeat workplace is a necessity. If the workspace isn’t positive, you can’t expect the workers to be. Encouraging one another, avoiding micromanagement, giving positive feedback and ensuring criticism is constructive are all ways to keep the environment a place where employees can do more than survive – they can thrive!

√ Give Employees More Control

“Happiness is affected by [employee’s] sense of control over their lives”. Employers should look for ways to give employees more control over their schedules, environment, and/or work habits.

Getting Started

  • Employers could offer alternative work schedules such as flextime or telecommuting.
  • Employers should also encourage employees to customize their workstations. This could include décor and/or equipment. In addition, studies show that certain colors or décor can improve happiness.

√ Stop Wasting Time

Tight deadlines are another major sources of stress for many employees. Employers can ease this stress by freeing up more time.

Getting Started

  • Make meetings shorter and more efficient.
  • Consider tricks that sound silly but are actually effective such as having a meeting with no chairs. People will be more likely to stick to the necessary agenda when they have to stand the entire meeting.

√ Break Up Routines

Surprises add spark to all areas of life, including the workplace. The keys are breaking up the routine of the workweek, promoting socialization, and demonstrating your appreciation.

Getting Started

  • You can occasionally bring in a special treat such as coffee or baked goods. Small gestures show employees that you appreciate their time.
  • Host a Wellness event with our On-Site Massage Therapists, alongside our Nutritionists and educate them on better eating habits.

√ Promote Good Health

Poor health is not only damaging to employees, it is detrimental to businesses. Chronic stress has a variety of negative side effects such as weight gain, lower immune system, increased risk of disease, and fatigue. Employers should encourage employees to reduce stress levels and improve their overall health.

Getting Started

  • The first step is to educate employees on health topics. Provide reading materials or offer seminars. People can’t make positive changes if they don’t know what to change. Once employees know about health topics such as stress, exercising, and healthy eating, start a health related program.
  • We can share with you the knowledge and ideas WorkWell has on these topics.

√ Give Employee Wellness a Boost

Being healthy and stress-free is another key aspect of happiness. Employers can do well to invest in employees’ health by promoting wellness programs at work. Nutrition, fitness, and stress reduction are the basic framework for a wellness program at work

Getting Started

  • That means healthier food options, encouraging fitness with our on-site yoga n pilates and incorporating meditation, mindfulness, and massage services at work.
